Update Calendars! CJ Band Last Night on Earth now September 9th plus bonus Epilogue September 15th

photo: Brian Fowler

We’ve moved our last (headliner) gig from September 10th (Saturday) t0 September 9th (Friday). Update yr. calendars!

We’ve also signed up to play Castaways with our friends Gadje on Thursday, September 15th.

(We’ll call this one the epilogue, and it’s where we’ll show the heroes sitting in a bar drinking and crying into their beverages, when Richard Attenborough walks in and says how he’s putting a team together and…nevermind. It’ll be fun.)

To recap:

The CJ Band: Last Night on Earth – Saturday, September 10th

This is it, the last hoorah of The Catherine Joy Band before CJ and the Rocketkar leave Ithaca on an epic quest to find and destroy the source of the seagull menace, a quest from which they may never return.

Like all hopeless missions, it must be preceded by an epic night of debauchery and merrymaking with all the people who will be so sorely missed.

Appropriately, that night will be taking place at the venue where Rocketkar first glared lecherously over the bar at Miss Joy as she mantled mysteriously over a tuna melt and Magic Hat.

Bang the drums, crack the whips and hold nothing back, for tomorrow we fly!

Confession Time

We’ve been keeping a big ol’ secret from most of you, and it makes us sad.

We’re leaving iTown. Leaving New York. Leaving the right coast altogether.

Sometime in September, CJ and Rocketkar are blasting off for Seattle on a hopeless mission to find and destroy the source of the virus that’s turning the seagulls evil. Also to get new jobs and more and stronger coffee.

So the band as we know it will be….not so much. We’re sad as hell to go, but nothing can be gained without giving something up. We are so freakin’ grateful for the awesome times we’ve had here in Ithaca and especially the guys at Big Time Studio and for Dan and Tonya who’ve made us an actual rock band that can do some real damage. And when they wake up in their cryotubes and realize they and their families have been kidnapped and brought along with us, they’ll see it’s all for the best.

But that’s the future, that’s all the way on the other side of tomorrow. For now, let us enjoy what we have, make the most of the gigs we’ve got and make this shit happen.

Lucky for you you can see us all sortsa places in the next couple weeks. Come see us:

Good god, that was a baller weekend at The International Steampunk City in Waltham, Mass.. Two kickass gigs, excellent road trip, super-successful guerilla promotion, late nights and a maniacal crew of friends and band members marauding like champions. Had an awesome time at the Skellig looking out at an audience full of pith helmets and top hats. Dressup is much more fun when you’re an adult.

Everyone’s photos here:

Also got a mention by the festival organizer, Stephanie Bassert in an article in the Boston Globe. Special thanks to her and all the festival staff, especially Jeremy who jumped in saved our asses from trying to manhandle an unfamiliar sound system.

Whiskey!

It’s been awhile since we shared a new track from The Seagulls Are Coming, so we thought we’d give everyone a little taste of whiskey. If you like it, head on over to the store to pick up a copy of your very own.
